Men’s Basketball Defeats Bemidji State, 101-86

Bemidji, Minn. – Redshirt sophomore Gage Davis put up his seventh double-double of the season to help lead the St. Cloud State men's basketball team (11-6, 7-1 NSIC) to its fifth straight win in a 101-86 victory over Bemidji State (3-10, 1-7 NSIC) on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Sanford Center
Davis put up game highs of 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Huskies. He also picked up five assists and a steal. Junior Jon Averkamp tallied 17 points and six rebounds. Fellow junior Andy Foley had 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior Scottie Stone recorded 13 points, four rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Brindley Theisen knocked down three threes among his 11 points. Freshman Trevon Marshall totaled nine points and seven assists off the bench.
BSU had four players reach double figures led by Ben Best's 25 points. Jai'Vionne Green recorded 19 points with Lucas Wendt and William Harvey both scoring 12.
The Huskies shot 56.2 percent from the field in the game (41-for-73) and 48 percent from three-point range (12-for-25). The program also outrebounded BSU 41 to 31. St. Cloud State was able to score 50 points in the first half and then 51 points in the second half for a season-high 101 points.
The game featured two tied scores and five lead changes. SCSU's largest lead was 24 points five minutes into the second half, 70-46, on a made jumper from senior Mark Hall. BSU's last lead of the game was 18-17 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. SCSU then went on a 34-12 run to end the half strong and take a 51-30 lead into the break. The Beavers were able to whittle the lead down to seven, 78-71, on the second of two made free throws form Wendt with just over seven minutes remaining in the game before SCSU closed out the game on a 23-15 run to end up winning going away by a 101-86 score.
The Huskies keep the road swing going and travel to Minnesota Crookston for a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday, Jan. 7.
