Carvel Graham Earns Football First-Team Academic All-District Honors For St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State University senior defensive back Carvel Graham, for his combined outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced this afternoon.

A Kenosha, Wis. native and a criminal justice and psychology major, Graham owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.51 during his time at SCSU. He has also been an NSIC All-Academic Team selection in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

Graham finished his senior season with a First Team All-NSIC selection as a defensive back for the second straight season. Graham, who played and started 10 games this season, led the team and placed third in the NSIC and 19th nationally with his five interceptions this season. He returned two of his interceptions for touchdowns as well. Graham was also fifth on the team in total tackles this season with 40 including 31 solo stops plus had two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Overall, Graham is the 18th different St. Cloud State football player to be named to a CoSIDA Academic All-District® team since 2000 and his being named is the 27th time for SCSU in the same time frame.

Graham is one of 16 NSIC football players named to the team this year. He and the rest of the all-district selections will now be eligible for the Academic All-America Ò team, which will be announced in December.

To be eligible for academic honors from CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, and be a starter or a key reserve on his team.

The Academic All-District Team ® teams include student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division.
The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
