In a non-conference game being played in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, March 5, the St. Cloud State University baseball team (1-3, 0-0 NSIC) lost a close 3-2 decision to NSIC rival Northern State University.
Both teams were strong on the mound, but Northern State was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over St Cloud State University. Cal Giese started the game for St Cloud State University Huskies and was the pitcher of record with five strikeouts, six hits and two runs in five innings of work.
Cooper Maas and Ethan Ibarra each drove in one run to lead St Cloud State University. Maas led the Huskies at the plate with three hits. Of note, Northern State score one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while the Huskies score two runs in the seventh as Mathew Meyer and Jackson Goplen each scored for SCSU.
Northern State had nine hits in the game. Easton Lopez and Ben Allen each collected multiple hits for Northern State.
The Huskies will continue their season on March 6 with a 2 p.m. game in Tucson, Ariz. against Southwest Minnesota State. This will be a non-conference game for both teams.
