St. Cloud State extends win streak with 14-1 victory over SMSU

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (3-3, 0-0 NSIC) extended its win streak in Arizona to two games with a 14-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday, March 7. Â The non-conference game was played at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
The Huskies scored one run in the first inning and then set the stage for the victory with a seven-run third inning to make the score 8-0. Â SCSU added four more runs in the fourth inning and capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth inning to make it 14-0. Â SMSU broke the shutout with one run in the top of the sixth to make the seven inning final 14-1.
In the contest, SCSU outhit the Mustangs 10-2 as Austin Caspersen was the pitcher of record for the Huskies in the contest. Â He started the game and pitched 4.1 innings with one hit allowed and seven strikeouts. Â T.J. Frericks, Aaron Hammann, Cooper Maas and Miles Nablo also pitched in relief during the contest, which featured 10 strikeouts by SCSU's pitching staff and only two hits allowed.
At the plate, Mathew Meyer had two hits, a triple and four RBIs in the game to spark SCSU. Â Mitch Mallek and Jackson Goplen also had two hits apiece in the game for SCSU, while Mallek had three RBIs. Â Goplen and Zach Metzger also had two RBIs in the game for the Huskies.
