
Late rally falls short for SCSU Baseball at NCAA Central Regional

The setback was SCSU's first loss at the NCAA tournament and it sets up a game on Sunday, May 21 against the winner of the Minnesota State and Central Oklahoma game. Â The Huskies will play the winner of the second game at 6:00 p.m. (or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game today at the regional tournament. Â All games in the tournament are being played this week at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia, Kan.

In the game between SCSU and Lindenwood, the Lions grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning and then stretched their lead to 6-0 with five runs in the third inning.
SCSU's bats were quiet until the Huskies picked up one run in the fourth inning when Mitch Mallek scored on an error by LWU.
Lindenwood added one more run in the fourth inning before the Huskies rallied with three runs in the fifth inning.  Mallek started the attack with a two-run double that scored Judd Davis and Cooper Maas.  A infield grounder by Mathew scored Joseph  to make the score 7-4.  In the sixth inning, the Huskies tied the game at 7-7 with an RBI single by Maas that scored Bo Schmitz and a two-run homer by Ethan Ibarra that scored Maas.
In the seventh inning, the Huskies gained an 8-7 lead when Jackson Goplen singled to left center that scored Mallek. Â Meyer and Goplen also had two hits apiece for the Huskies.
The Huskies held the lead until the top of the ninth inning when Lindenwood scored three runs to gain the regional victory.
Relief pitcher Miles Nablo was the pitched of record for the Huskies with 2.2 innings of work. Â Zach Siggelkow started the game for SCSU, while Aaron Hammann and Kyle Boser also had innings of relief work in the game. Â On the day, SCSU outhit Lindenwood 15-12.Â
Davis led the Huskies at the plate with four hits and one run, while Mallek had three hats, two runs and two RBIs in the contest.
