Football’s Graham Miller Named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State sophomore linebacker Graham Miller has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25, the league office announced this afternoon.
Miller led the defensive effort for SCSU with five tackles including a pair of stops for loss. He also picked up the game changing interception that he returned 29-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter that gave SCSU a two-score lead. He helped the SCSU defense limit the Augustana offense to just 45 yards rushing.
Miller's selection as an NSIC Player of the Week this season is the first for the program since Brett Wainright was named the NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 17, 2014. He is the first SCSU defensive player to be honored by the league office since Jack Moro was during the 2013 campaign (10/28/13).
Miller is tied for the team lead in interceptions this season with two. He has also picked up 13 tackles in the first four contests.
The other players that were named NSIC Players of the Week were Brent Lammers (Upper Iowa) as offensive and Jake Balliu (Winona State) as special teams.
St. Cloud State defeated Augustana by a 26-14 score in the Hall of Fame Game on Saturday, Sept. 23. The game was delayed twice by lighting and featured bouts of heavy rain throughout. Miller led the defense was his five tackles plus an interception return for a touchdown. Freshman Adam Stage connected on a pair of field goals in the game. His 46-yard made field goal was the longest for the program since Eric Mielke also hit a 46-yard field goal during the 2014 season. Gregory Lewis led the offense with his 58 yards rushing and a score. Redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Czech started his first career contest and connected on 10 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown. Junior John Pass totaled four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
SCSU (3-1) has a short-week before taking on Minnesota Duluth (2-2) on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at James S. Malosky Stadium in a contest that will be shown by Midco TV. The Huskies then return home to host Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
