Twelve Huskies earn NSIC honors

BURNSVILLE, MINN. – It was quite the season for the St. Cloud State University football team. The Huskies compiled their best overall and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) record since the 2013 season, as they concluded the year with a 7-4 record and an identical mark in conference play. On Thursday, 12 different student-athletes were recognized for their contributions during the season as they were named First Team, Second Team or All-Conference Honorable Mention by the NSIC Thursday morning.
In total, four members of the St. Cloud State football team were named to the North Division All-NSIC First Team for the first time in their careers. Seniors Gregory Lewis (Milwaukee, Wis. / Wauwautosa West) and Sam Hartman (Des Moines, Iowa / West Des Moines) earned the honor after being named Second Team All-Conference one season ago, while junior wide receiver John Solberg (Cambridge, Minn. / Cambridge-Isanti) and senior defensive lineman Jake Schley (Cudahy Wis. / St. Thomas More) were first time All-Conference and First Team honorees.
Defensemen Ferris Ingraham (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston), Skyler Kurt (Lodi, Wis. / Lodi) and Jack Horter (Sussex, Wis. / Marquette) represented the Huskies as members of the North Division All-NSIC Second Team, while Anthony Carver (Milwaukee, Wis. / Lutheran), Dwayne Lawhorn (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown), Jamari Manuel (Madison, Wis. / East), Robert Kraklow (Mukwonago, Wis. / Mukwonago) and Adam Stage (Appleton, Wis. / Kimberly) earned All-Conference Honorable Mentions honors at the end of the season.
Lewis, Hartman and Solberg helped St. Cloud State to its best offensive season in recent history, helping the Huskies tally 3712 total yards of offensive during the 2018 season, while averaging 23.18 points per game and 337.5 all-purpose yards per game during the regular season. Lewis was key to this success, as he had a senior season to remember. The senior became the first running back to rush for 1000+ yards since 2005, closing 2018 with 1075 rush yards, which ranks No. 16 all-time in program history. Additionally, Lewis also ranked in the top-5 in multiple statistical categories in the NSIC at the end of the regular season, as he finished the year ranked third in total rush yards (1075) and fourth in yards/game (97.7). The senior also finished the season ranked sixth in all-purpose yards (1103) and ninth in all-purpose yards per game (100.3)
Hartman, a 2017 Second Team All-NSIC honoree, was statistically the top tight end in the NISC North Division, allowing him to earn First Team All-Conference honors his senior season. He led all active tight ends in receptions (19), receiving yards (295) and touchdowns (4) at the end of 2018 and averaged a healthy 13.95 yards per catch during the year. As a blocker and member of the offensive line, Hartman helped the Huskies rush for 1560 total yards in 2018, which ranked seventh overall and fourth amongst teams in the North Division.
Solberg was the third and final St. Cloud State offensive player to earn North Division First Team All-NSIC accolades. The junior wide receiver had a break out season in 2018, as he was Lawhorn's favorite target during the season, recording a career-high 848 receiving yards with eight touchdowns. Solberg ranked seventh in the NSIC in both total receiving yards (848) and receptions per game (5), while ranking eighth in yards per game (77.1) and 15th in yards/catch (15.4).
Schley was the lone Husky on the North Division All-Conference First Team for defense and one of five defensemen honored by the NSIC at the conclusion of the season. Schley, along with Ingraham, Kurt, Horter and Manuel were members of one of the best defenses in program history, as St. Cloud State finished the season ranked in the top-30 in the nation in several defensive stats. During the season, the Huskies ranked third in the NSIC in total defense, as they surrendered just 2228 passing yards and 1180 rush yards to opponents this season. At the end of the season, St. Cloud State ranked 32nd in the nation in total defense and No. 18 in rush defense, giving up a low average of 107.3 rush yards per game in 2018.
Schley was third on the team in total tackles in 2018, finishing the year with 61 total (38 solo, 23 assist). The senior defensive lineman was second on the team in both sacks (4) and tackled for loss (11) during the season and led the team in yards lost (52) by an opponent during the year. Additionally, Schley recorded two break ups and three quarterback hurries his senior season.
Horter was the team's top tackler during 2018, as he closed the year with a team-leading 73 tackles. The senior linebacker also lead the team in solo tackles (49) at the end of 2018 and recorded 9.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one pick-6, three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Ingraham and Kurt were both key components on the Huskies front seven, while Manuel roamed the grass as the team's No. 1 cornerback/safety. Ingraham recorded a career-high 42 tackles in 2018 and was a force to be reckoned with on the outside edge, recording 3.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss in 2018. As the team's starting nose guard, Kurt finished the season with 17 tackles, four tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry and two forced fumbles.
Manuel, an All-Conference Honorable Mention recipient, saved the best for last, as he had a career year with 58 tackles, one interception, three break ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was second on the team in solo tackles with 43 and ranked fourth in total tackles (58) during the year.
Lawhorn earned All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades for the second consecutive season after proving to once again be one of the top quarterbacks in the North Division. Despite missing three games due to injury, Lawhorn ranked sixth in the conference in passing yards per game (203.9) and seventh in total passing yards with 1835. He completed 132 of his 265 passing attempts during the season and finished the year with 16 touchdowns, a number that ranked sixth in the league, and nine interceptions.
After earning First Team All-NSIC honors a season ago, Stage was named All-Conference Honorable Mention after leading the NSIC in several statistical categories as a kicker. The sophomore led the NSIC In field goals per game (1.5), field goals made (16), field goals attempts (21) and field goal percentage (76.2) among kickers with a minimum of 10 attempts. His 47-yard field goal against Minnesota-Crookston was the fifth-longest completed field goal in the NSIC this season, and he was named both the conference Special Teams Player of the Week and national Special Teams Player of the Week on September 10.

Kraklow also helped the Husky offense record 3712 total yards of offense while holding opposing defenses to just 14 sacks for losses of 88 yards.
