St. Cloud State wins their opening series, 2-1 as Missouri Western State avoids being swept.
The Huskies found themselves in a six-run deficit after three innings before Ethan Ibarra singled in Caeden Harris to make the score 6-1 in the fourth inning. Reid Conlee recorded two RBI's with a pinch-hit single to cut the Griffons' lead in half in the fifth inning.
After the Griffons scratched across an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, Zach Walz would record the Huskies' fourth run after Mitch Mallek reached on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning. Sophomore shortstop, Jordan Joseph brought the deficit within two runs after scoring on a wild pitch. Missouri Western's Casey Danley added a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to pad the Griffons' lead and diminish the Huskies' late rally.
Shannon Ahern's 3.2 innings of work out of the Huskies' bullpen was an essential piece in allowing the Huskies to make a late-inning rally in the opening series of the 2018 season. Ahern did not allow a hit or an earned run while striking out two batters in his first appearance of the year.
Aaron Hamman recorded the loss for the Huskies (0-1, 2.2 IP, 4 ER).
Jacob Miller (1-1, 10.50 ERA) was the pitcher of record after recording a game-high of five strikeouts over four innings for the Griffons.
