LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies have had eight days off since their last test, a doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth. In the home opener for SCSU, the offense was red-hot as the Huskies swept the doubleheader by scores of 18-0 and 9-8. SCSU set two new season-highs in game one, scoring 18 runs and hitting three home runs. Redshirt senior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) hit a grand slam in the first inning, before solo home runs from senior Nick Ibrahim (Woodbury, Minn.) and redshirt freshman Jack Clark (Solon, Iowa) in the second and fifth innings. Clark's homer was the first of his collegiate career.
The Huskies were patient in game two, working a season-high 15 walks and four hit by pitches in the come-from-behind victory. SCSU trailed 5-1 in the fifth and 7-3 in the sixth but battled back to eventually take the lead in the seventh. Redshirt junior Hayden Konkol (Denmark, Wis.) had a big two-run double to tie the game in the seventh inning and later made the game-winning catch in the ninth to close out the victory.
FRESHMAN LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Ryan Cahoon (Northfield, Minn.) has stepped in immediately and been a go-to bat in the middle of the lineup for the Huskies, leading the team in numerous offensive categories and all NSIC batters in on-base percentage (.568) and walks (34). In addition to those two categories, Cahoon leads the Huskies in batting average (.378) while ranking fourth in slugging percentage (.486) and sixth in hits (28).
Cahoon had five hits against Southwest Minnesota State on March 29, which is tied for the most hits in a single game by an NSIC hitter this season and the most by a SCSU hitter since John Nett had five on April 30, 2023, against Minnesota Duluth. Against the Bulldogs on March 31, Cahoon walked eight times over the course of the doubleheader to push his season total to 34, tying him for eighth in program history for walks in a single season.
CASTRO AND MORENO KEEP RACKING
Since joining the Huskies ahead of the 2025 season, junior Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been an extra base machine, hitting 29 last season (16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs) before adding another 23 (13 doubles, four triples, four home runs) through 29 games this season. Castro's 29 extra base hits in 2025 led all Huskies and ranked just outside the top-10 on SCSU's single season all-time list.
Castro leads the Huskies in OPS (1.206), doubles (13), triples (four), home runs (six) and slugging percentage (.745). He ranks among the NSIC's top-10 in numerous offensive categories, ranking first in triples (four), second in doubles (13), sixth in slugging percentage (.745) and eighth in OPS (1.206).
Redshirt senior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) was named the NSIC Player of the Week after hitting .625 (10-for-16) in a four-game sweep of Northern State at US Bank Stadium on Feb. 26 and 28. Moreno was red hot at the plate in the sweep, hitting .625 (10-for-16) with a double, six RBI, eight runs and five stolen bases. He recorded a .667 OBP% and .688 SLG% for a whopping 1.355 OPS. The Husky senior had two or more hits in three of the four games, including a 4-for-4 with three runs in the 11-1 win on Thursday. Moreno swiped a bag in each game and had two in Saturday's 15-8 win. Following the 10-for-16 performance, Moreno raised his average from .200 to .389.
On the season, he is hitting .348 with a .864 OPS, one home run, seven doubles, 19 RBI, 26 runs and a team-leading 11 stolen bases.
