A pitcher's duel between the SCSU and CSP staffs ended in the Huskies' favor after 13 innings. The Huskies' offense produced 11 runs in the game two victory.
GAME 1 SUMMARY
St. Cloud State showed success on both sides of the baseball in Sunday's action. The Huskies snapped CSP's 47.1 innings of consecutive scoreless innings in the first inning of the game, when Mitch Mallek singled in Jordan Joseph. The Golden Bears also had thrown six straight shutouts as a pitching staff, which was also snapped by Mallek's RBI.Â
SCSU carried a one-run lead through four innings until the Golden Bears would tie the game in the fifth. Neither team would score again until the 13th inning when Jackson Goplen would push the Huskies across, 4-1 after a three-run, opposite-field home run. The 13th was led off by a pair of hits from Bo Schmitz and Mitch Mallek.
Dominic Austing was phenomenal in his seven-inning outing where he struck out four and only allowed one run on six hits.
In relief, Nathan Strobel was clutch by not allowing a run over four innings. The righty stranded five runners that all represented the winning run during extra-inning play.
Kyle Boser was the pitcher of record for SCSU, throwing two innings of relief and stranding two runners that represented the game-winning run. Boser moves to 2-2 on the year.Â
GAME 2 SUMMARY
Matthew Osterberg (2-0) was the storyline of the second game. The freshman went six innings and only allowed two hits while not surrendering an earned run. Osterberg allowed one hit in the first inning, then did not allow another one until the seventh inning.Â
Caeden Harris recorded a 2 RBI single in the first to put the Huskies up 2-0 until the fifth inning, where Aaron Hammann led off the inning, then Ethan Ibarra and Bo Schmitz hit back-to-back doubles to extend the lead to four.Â
Leading up to Mat Meyer's fourth at-bat, the Huskies led 7-0. He would then record a grand slam home run to put the Huskies up 11-0.Â
The Golden Bears would score one unearned run in the seventh inning to spoil the Huskies' shutout in the Sunday sweep.
