SCSU to open NSIC Tournament with Northern State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The regionally ranked St. Cloud State softball team will open its run in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NSIC) with a familiar foe. The No. 4 seeded Huskies will square off with No. 5 Northern State University at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
This is the second consecutive trip for St. Cloud State, which concluded the regular season with a 34-17 overall record and a 20-10 mark in NSIC play to earn the four-seed in the conference tournament. The Huskies were also regionally ranked throughout the majority of the season, as they were No. 9 in the most recent NCAA regional poll.
St. Cloud State's opponent Northern State earned the five-seed in the conference tournament after finishing the year with an overall record of 28-20 and 18-10 record in NSIC play. The Wolves were also regionally ranked throughout the year and were previously ranked tenth in the NCAA Central Region.
The NSIC Softball Tournament will take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota starting Thursday, May 3. The first games of the morning are set to begin at 10 a.m., meaning St. Cloud State and Northern State will play the second game of the day at Bowden Field following the conclusion of Concordia-St. Paul vs. Minot State. Tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for kids, and all children under the age of five can get in for free. Tournament passes can also be purchased, $25 for adults and $15 for students.

4 – The Huskies tallied four wins in their last six games, all against NSIC opponents. St. Cloud State swept the University of Minnesota-Crookston 6-3 and 10-1 on April 25 before splitting its next two doubleheaders against Augustana (L 3-0, W 2-1) and Wayne State (L 17-6, W 8-0).
5th – Thursday's game against the Wolves will be just the fifth outdoor game the Huskies have played this season. St. Cloud State played outside for the first time this season on April 28, when it hosted Augustana at Selke Field on April 28.
681 – Since taking over the program 21 years ago, softball head coach Paula U'Ren has won 681 games for a career win percentage of over .500. Additionally, U'Ren has guided the Huskies to four NSIC Tournament appearances in the past six years, including back-to-back appearances in 2017 and 2018.
.388 – Sophomore infielder Maya Keating (Wheaton, Illinois / Wheaton-Warrensville) paces the St. Cloud State offense with 62 hits and a .388 batting average this 2018 season. Catcher Morgan Emmans (Blaine, Minn. / Mounds Park) has been the team's top power hitter, as she leads the Huskies in home runs (11), doubles (19), runs (42), RBI (59) and slugging (.684) this season.
