St. Cloud State Softball Sweeps Final Day of Space Coast Spring Games, Finishes Florida Trip 9-3

Huskies beat Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), Salem (W.Va.)
MELBOURNE, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (18-4, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its final day of games in the Sunshine State on Saturday. The Huskies beat Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), 3-2 in game one before taking down Salem (W.Va.), 9-1 (5 inn.) in game two, to conclude its time at the Space Coast Spring Games at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, SAGINAW VALLEY STATE 2
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third after an RBI-single from junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.), but Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) (7-8, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) tied the game at one the next half inning after hitting an RBI-single of its own. The Cardinals went on to take a 2-1 lead in the home half of the fifth after stealing home, but SCSU regained the lead in the next half inning with what turned out to be the game-winning two-RBI single from redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.).
TOP HUSKIES
Salem (W.Va.) (2-7, Independent) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning after hitting an RBI-single before the Huskies finished the game scoring nine unanswered runs. SCSU plated its first two runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI-triple from Frechette. In the next inning, Frechette pushed the Huskies lead to three with a sacrifice fly and she extended the SCSU lead to five with a two-RBI triple in the fifth inning. Later in the fifth inning, freshman infielder Annabelle Ross (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly, junior outfielder Kurstyn Patnode (Becker, Minn.) recorded a pinch-hit RBI-single and Ross came around to score the game-ending run after a Salem wild pitch.

The Huskies wrap up nonconference play with a pair of road doubleheaders as part of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)/NSIC Crossover. On Friday, the Huskies play No. 8 Missouri Southern (21-3, 0-0 MIAA) at 3 and 5 p.m. at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex in Joplin, Missouri and on Saturday, SCSU travels to Pittsburg, Kansas to play No. 22 Pittsburg State (20-1, 0-0 MIAA) at the Pittsburg State Softball Field at noon and 2 p.m. Links to each coverage option can be found on the SCSU Softball game day central or schedule page.

- Clark surpassed 50 strikeouts on the season.
- Junior infielder Kennedy Palmer (Ankeny, Iowa) recorded two sacrifice hits which is the most of any Husky in a game this season.
