St. Cloud State Softball Drops Doubleheader to No. 4 Missouri Southern

Huskies fall 3-1, 4-1
JOPLIN, Mo. – St. Cloud State Softball (18-6, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) was swept by No. 4 Missouri Southern (23-3, 0-0 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) in its first doubleheader of the MIAA/NSIC Crossover on Friday at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex in Joplin. The Huskies fell 3-1 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
GAME ONE: #4 MISSOURI SOUTHERN 3, ST. CLOUD STATE 1
SCSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third after an RBI-single from junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.). The Lions responded with a pair of runs in the next half inning to take a 2-1 lead after an RBI-double and an RBI-single. In the bottom of the fifth, MoSo added another run with an RBI-double. The Huskies loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh but were unable to score.

The Lions opened the game with a four-run first inning after an RBI-double and a three-run home run in the next at-bat. St. Cloud State got one run back in the fifth with an RBI-double from senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) but were unable to score again.

The Huskies wrap up nonconference play and their stretch of 22 games outside the state of Minnesota on Saturday with a MIAA/NSIC Crossover doubleheader at No. 16 Pittsburg State (24-1, 0-0 MIAA). First pitches from Pittsburg, Kansas and the Pittsburg State Softball Field are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon. - Collins posted her first multi-hit game of the season.
- Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) extended her hit and on-base streaks to a season best nine games. Her hit streak ties the longest of any Husky this season.
