St. Cloud State Softball Splits Pair in Penultimate Day of Space Coast Spring Games

Huskies defeat Holy Family (Pa.), fall to Charleston (W.Va.)
MELBOURNE, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (16-4, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its two games on Friday in its penultimate day at the Space Coast Spring Games at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne. The Huskies beat Holy Family (Pa.), 3-2, before falling to Charleston (W.Va.), 4-3 in game two.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, HOLY FAMILY 2
Holy Family (Pa.) (2-5, 0-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after hitting an RBI-single. The Huskies responded with a pair of runs in the next half inning, taking a 2-1 lead after redshirt freshman infielder Hannah Weckman (Lakeville, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly and sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run. In the top of the fourth, the Tigers tied the game at two with an RBI-single, but SCSU would go on to win the game in the bottom of the seventh after sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) hit a walk-off RBI-double.
TOP HUSKIES
Charleston (W.Va.) (9-7, 0-0 Mountain East) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a pair of RBI-singles in the bottom of the first inning and extended its lead to 4-0 in the next inning with another RBI-single and a run scored on a wild pitch. The Huskies got on the board in the third inning when Holmes hit an RBI-triple and cut its deficit to one in the fifth inning after Holmes drove in another run on a fielder's choice and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly.
TOP HUSKIES
The Huskies wrap up their spring break trip to Florida for the Space Coast Spring Games on Saturday in Melbourne with games against Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) (7-7, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and Salem (W.Va.) (2-6, Independent). First pitches scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT and 3:45 p.m. CT respectively.
