The St. Cloud State University Department of Athletics and Huskies football mourns the loss of former three-time All-NSIC standout Scott Ferguson, who passed away early in the morning on Friday, June 8.
Scott Ferguson
Ferguson played for the Huskies from 2006-2010, ending his career as one of the most successful players in St. Cloud State football history. As a senior in 2010, Ferguson led the Huskies to, what was then, their best record in program history at 10-3, setting the school record for single-season wins and games played in a single season. St. Cloud State advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament that year, and Ferguson played in the 2011 Cactus Bowl, which featured the top-88 players in all of Division II.
In addition to his senior season, Ferguson put together quite the career at St. Cloud State. The 6'6, 360-pound lineman was a four-year starter for the Huskies and was a three-time All-Conference selection with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), landing on First Team twice in his career. After redshirting his freshman season, Ferguson played in 44 games and made 33 starts and helped the offense gain an average of 423.6 yards per game in total offense as a senior in 2010, including 227.9 yards in the air and 195.7 yards on the ground. Ferguson was also a fifth-round draft pick and No. 35 overall pick of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
"Our staff and football program are devastated by the loss of Scott Ferguson," head football coach Scott Underwood said in a recent statement. "Scott was an instrumental player, teammate and leader during one of the most successful periods in Huskies football history. He will be deeply missed for his competitive spirit, big laugh and endearing personality that made him a team favorite"
A native of Bowmanville, Ontario, Ferguson is survived by his wife, Kelsey and newborn son Maxley. More information regarding the pending memorial service and family updates can be found at the links listed below.
