Lexi Slattery, 2014 to 2016 SCSU Women's Hockey, signs with Metro Riveters
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – Former St. Cloud State women's hockey defenseman, Lexi Slattery, signed with the Metropolitan Riveters of the NWHL this week. Slattery finished her collegiate career with SCSU in 2016 after transferring from Providence college after two seasons.
From 2014 to 2016, Slattery had 24 points as an offensive defender for the Huskies (8 G, 16 A). The Hugo, Minnesota native played pro in the 2016-17 season with the IF Sundvall/Timra of the SDHL where she had one goal and nine assists.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the NWHL," said Slattery in a NWHL press release. "I'm excited for the chance to play at the next level with some of the best players out there, and it's an honor to be able to join such a strong organization as the Riveters. Not only is it an exciting time to be a part of the league as it grows, but it is also an important time for the top-level players to continue to join the NWHL and develop it."
"Growing up, this wasn't even a possibility, so to be a part of something so big and monumental is really special," Slattery said. "Girls can grow up aspiring to do something that we never thought we could, and that's powerful and means a lot to me. I have a really big love for the game."
Slattery joins fellow former SCSU skater Katie Fitzgerald on the Riveters roster. In her four seasons as a goaltender for the Huskies, Fitzgerald played 78 games with a 3.06 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. Fitzgerald has quickly become an all-star goaltender for the Riveters since signing on in 2016, honored as the NWHL's 2016-17 Goaltender of the Year and winning the league trophy, the Isobel Cup, in 2018.
