HOUSTON, Tex. - The (RV) St. Cloud State baseball team (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) opened their 2019 season with a 7-2 victory over No. 6 Texas A&M Kingsville at Minute Maid Park on Friday, February 1st, 2019.

Behind a stellar start from senior captain Dominic Austing, the Huskies' offense was able to explode for ten hits and seven runs on opening day. Austing tallied 11 K's through 5.2 shutout innings, while only allowing three hits. Blake Flint made his SCSU debut in relief of Austing, recording a save in his 3.1 innings of work. Flint struck out five and did not allow an earned run.

Mathew Meyer collected two hits and the game's first RBI that scored Jordan Joseph to put SCSU up 1-0 in the first. Najee Gaskins, who also made his debut in a Huskies' uniform collected two hits and scored the second run of the game courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Jordan Joseph. St. Cloud State was able to hold their 2-0 lead until the eighth inning, where the Huskies would receive some insurance runs to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom frame. With two outs in the inning, Mitch Mallek singled through the left side before being moved up to second courtesy of a single from Meyer. Caeden Harris would then score Mallek with a single to left.

Lenny Walker was the third Arizona native to make his debut for SCSU on Friday, reaching on an error to continue the two-out rally that would score Mat Meyer. Toran Shahidi's first hit for the Huskies was a bellowing three-run shot to left field that would put the Huskies up 7-0.

Texas A&M Kingsville would scratch across two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to reduce SCSU's lead 7-2.

Blake Flint would record two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to seal St. Cloud State's first victory of the season.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday against Tarleton State at 10:00 AM CT.
