Behind a stellar start from senior captain Sheldon Miks, the Huskies' offense out-hit the Mules 12-9 and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning to forge an early surge of momentum. Miks posted five scoreless frames in his six inning effort, where he struck out five, walked none and only allowed two runs on five hits.
Sunday's win for Miks marks his first since 2017 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Najee Gaskins started the game with a single through the right side, then Jordan Joseph and Mitch Mallek followed with walks to load the bases for Mitch Mallek. A balk would move the runners up and push the Huskies' first run across before Meyer would draw the third walk of the inning.
A single from Caeden Harris to right center field would score Mallek and Joseph to give SCSU a 3-0 lead until the fourth inning.
In the fourth, Ethan Ibarra singled to right and was knocked in courtesy of a RBI double from Jordan Joseph to put SCSU up 4-0.HARRIS! Huskies take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the first courtesy of a 2 RBI single from @Caeden1Harris 💪#unleashGRIT pic.twitter.com/HNZW6V1ZC4

Mathew Meyer would lead off the fifth inning with a double down the right field line, Harris followed with a HBP, then Lenny Walker came through with a sacrifice bunt to put Meyer and Harris in scoring position. Matt Quade's first hit as a Husky was a RBI single to center that scored Meyer; Harris was called safe due to a catcher's interference call.
