The Huskies used a seven-run eighth inning to take back the lead.
Behind a stellar start from senior ace, Dominic Austing the Huskies were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead and keep the advantage until the sixth inning when the Rangers tied things up. Austing tossed 4 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, including nine strikeouts and no runs allowed. The senior ace was relieved after 4 2/3 innings after eventually only allowing one hit and two walks. Relieving Austing was Blake Flint, who evaded a bases-loaded jam to record the final out of the fifth and keep the score at 2-0 in favor of SCSU.
Parkside would strike in back-to-back innings, putting up two runs in the sixth to tie the game, then taking the lead in the seventh after a three-run inning.Â
Trailing 5-2 in the eighth inning, the Huskies received a 2 RBI single through the right side from Matt Quade, then a SAC fly from Jordan Joseph that scored Quade to tie the game at five each. Mitch Mallek would pick up the go-ahead RBI, then a Ranger balk with the bases loaded scored Najee Gaskins to put the Huskies up 7-5. Then, Lenny Walker doubled home Mathew Meyer and Mallek to score the final two runs of the ballgame and put SCSU up 9-5 heading into the ninth inning.Â
Lenny Waker had a career high of four hits in Sunday's game, going 4-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Senior shortstop Jordan Joseph was 3-4 with a run scored and a RBI while Toran Shahidi posted two hits.Â
Matt Butler would record his first career win after closing the door on the Rangers in the ninth. The redshirt senior tossed 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball while also recording five strikeouts and not allowing an earned run.Â
The Huskies out-hit the Rangers 13-4 and left ten runners on base throughout the course of the game. As a staff, SCSU combined for 15 strikeouts and five walks in 41 batters faced. Parkside committed six errors in the contest while combining for six strikeouts as a pitching staff.
#14 St. Cloud State and Wisconsin-Parkside will return to action in Joplin, MO at 11 AM on Sunday, February 25th. The Huskies will close their weekend series against Missouri S&T at roughly 5:00 PM CT on Monday night.Â
