Miks Tosses Complete Game, #14 SCSU Finishes 2-1 on the Weekend

Sheldon Miks notched his 10th career complete game in SCSU’s 5-2 victory over Wisconsin Parkside on Monday.
JOPLIN, MO. – The #14 St. Cloud State baseball team (5-1, 0-0 NSIC) split in their non-conference contests on Monday, February 25th at Joe Becker Field to finish 2-1 on the weekend. The Huskies defeated Wisconsin Parkside 5-2 before falling in Monday's night cap to Missouri S&T 9-3.

Behind a stellar complete game effort from Sheldon Miks, the Huskies were able to overcome an early two-run deficit and use a five-run fourth inning to record their fifth straight victory of the season.
In Miks' complete game effort, the senior southpaw recorded eight strikeouts while only surrendering two runs on six hits over his nine innings of work. Miks improves to 2-0 on the season and is now tied for the 16th most complete games in program history with ten.
Caeden Harris recorded the Huskies' first RBI of the game to cut SCSU's deficit in half then, Matt Quade gave St. Cloud State the lead with a 2 RBI single. Aaron Hammann would cap off the five-run inning with a two-run shot to left field for his first home run of the season. The Huskies would then maintain their 5-2 lead for the duration of the ball game.

The Huskies' first loss of the season came at the hand of Missouri S&T after a four-run first inning by the Miners to put SCSU in an early deficit. S&T would scratch across one more in the second, then put up three more in the fifth. SCSU was able to scratch across three runs in the fourth and had scoring opportunities throughout the game, but stranded six runners while only combining for six hits as a team.
Shannon Ahern was the pitcher of record for SCSU in his first start of the 2019 season, with Matt Osterberg providing 2 2/3 innings of relief and four strikeouts in his second appearance of the season. Ahern struck out five over 4 1/3 while not surrendering a walk.
Riley Ahern made his collegiate debut for the Huskies on Monday night, striking out the first batter he saw and posting a 1, 2, 3 eighth inning.
#14 St. Cloud State returns to action Mar. 4-10 for the Tucson Invitational Games at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. The Huskies will kick off the TIG against Concordia University (NE) on March 4th at 3 PM MST.
