#11 St. Cloud State Opens Tucson Invitational Games with 11-8 Victory

TUCSON, Ariz. - The #11 St. Cloud State baseball team (6-1, 0-0 NSIC) opened their annual spring trip with an 11-8 victory over NAIA opponent, Concordia University (Neb.) at the Kino Sports Complex.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Huskies used a seven-run third inning to take the lead for the duration of the ball game.
SCSU led 7-1 until the sixth inning, when CU scratched across two runs, before adding three more in the seventh. Concordia would then make it a three-run ball game in the eighth before SCSU would put a stop to the comeback efforts, holding on for an 11-8 victory in their first game of the Tucson Invitational Games.
As a team, SCSU out-hit Concordia 16-11 while stranding 11 runners compared to CU's six.
Sheldon Miks started the game for SCSU, putting in two innings of work before being relieved by Shannon Ahern for two innings who was the eventual pitcher of record. Following Ahern was Cal Giese, Zach Siggelkow and Matt Butler.
Najee Gaskins, Mathew Meyer, Toran Shahidi and Aaron Hammann each recorded two RBI's while Gaskins picked up three hits and Meyer was 4-4 on the day.
Up NEXT: #11 St. Cloud State and St. Benedictine-Mesa will square off at 6:30 PM MST at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, AZ on Tuesday, March 5.
