IRVING, Tex. – St. Cloud State University's Jack Horter (Sussex, Wis. / Marquette) continues to make headlines despite concluding his football career in the fall of 2018. On Wednesday, it was announced that Horter was honors as a member of the National Football Foundation's (NFF) Hampshire Honors Society, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
Horter was one of 1634 student-athletes from across the nation to receive the honor and one of 41 football players from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to qualify for membership.
To receive the prestigious honor, student-athletes must be of senior standing and completed their final year of collegiate eligibility in the fall of 2018. They are then nominated by their coaches and sports information representatives and must have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher during their collegiate career. Additionally, the student-athletes must have been either a starter during the 2018 season or made significant contributions to the team during the year.
Horter was a key member of the Huskies stalwart defense, which ended the year ranked in the top-50 in the country in multiple statistical categories. He earned Second Team All-Conference honors after leading the team in total and solo tackles during the season. Horter closed the year with a team-leading 73 tackles, 49 of which were solo, and recorded 9.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one pick-6, three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and tallied three fumble recoveries.
