Austing, Osterberg Shine for #5 SCSU on the Hill, Huskies Sweep Beavers

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The #5 St. Cloud State baseball team (29-6, 17-4 NSIC) extended their winning streak to seven after picking up two wins over Bemidji State on Wednesday, April 16. The Huskies currently sit second in the standings of the always rugged NSIC while receving a #5 national rank from the NCBWA in their latest NCAA DII poll with one first place vote.Â
Of note, SCSU also received a #1 rank in the NCWBA's Central Region Poll, collecting seven first place votes and 94 total points.Â
GAME ONE, #5 SCSU 6 | BSU 0
Dominic Austing posted a complete game shutout in game one against the Beavers, striking out eight and only allowing five hits and one walk. Austing improves to 5-0 on the season after notching his eighth career complete game, and third career shutout.Â
At the plate, Jordan Joseph was 3-4 with one RBI while Najee Gaskins, Lenny Walker and Mathew Meyer each had multi-hit games. Of note, Meyer had two RBI's in the contest.
As a team, SCSU out-hit the Beavers 12-5 and neither team committed an error.Â
GAME TWO, #5 SCSU 4 | BSU 2
Matthew Osterberg (3-1) was nothing short of spectacular in his career day on the hill for SCSU. The sophomore southpaw tossed eight scoreless innings, struck out six and only allowed six runners to reach base.Â
In another strong showing at the plate, the Huskies out-hit BSU 13-5. Included in those 13 hits were two triples by Caeden Harris. Harris was 3-4 with 2 RBI's while Jordan Joseph posted three its and two RBI's as well. Lenny Walker was the only other Husky to record two hits.
St. Cloud State returns to action April 19-20 against Minnesota Crookston, in Crookston.
