
#14 St. Cloud State Sweeps U-Mary, Improves to 36-9 Overall

SCSU has posted 25 consecutive scoreless innings and three straight shutouts.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - While extending their winning streak to three, the #14 St. Cloud State baseball team (36-9, 24-7 NSIC) also extended their scoreless inning streak to 25 after capturing two key conference victories over the University of Mary Marauders at Joe Faber Field on Wednesday, May 1. SCSU defeated the Marauders 1-0 in game one, then posted another shutout to win 4-0 in the midweek series finale.Â
Dominic Austing collected his seventh win of the season while tossing seven scoreless innings and striking out seven in SCSU's game one victory over U-Mary. The senior captain only allowed two hits and walked three in his ninth career complete game, and fourth career shutout.Â
Aaron Hammann posted the team's sole RBI on a fly out to right that scored Caeden Harris, while Jordan Joseph and Matt Quade were the only two Huskies to record hits in game one.Â
In game two, the Huskies were able to provide a little more offensively by putting up four runs on five hits and taking advantage of three Marauder errors. Matthew Osterberg improved to 5-1 after striking out seven, walking two and only allowing two hits over six strong innings. Riley Ahern, Trevor Koening, Dylan Haskamp and Matt Butler would piece together the rest of the game two shutout, combining for four strikeouts and only allowing one hit out of the bullpen on Wednesday afternoon.
A single from Aaron Hammann in the first would score Lenny Walker to give SCSU their first run of the ballgame, then Hammann would come around and score on an error. The Huskies added one more in the second after Toran Shahidi drove in Mitch Mallek with a SF to right field. SCSU kept their 3-0 edge for the majority of the contest before Toran Shahidi doubled home Mallek to score the final run of the game.Â
St. Cloud State earned a #3 rank in the week two Central Region standings and will close their regular season in Marshall, MN against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs May 3-4.Â
