SCSU baseball splits in second day of games at U.S. Bank Stadium

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (6-2, 0-0 NSIC) split a twinbill against Concordia-St. Paul (1-4, 0-0 NSIC) on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Huskies opened the day with a 7-0 victory in game one and then lost a close battle in game two by a 7-6 margin. The Huskies will now have some time off before returning to action with games at the RussMat Invitational in the Orlando, Fla. area on March 5 through March 11.
In the morning opener at U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, the Huskies scored four runs in the third inning to clinch the victory. The runs opened with an RBI walk by Aaron Hammann that scored Josh Hill from third. Drew Bulson followed with another RBI walk that brought home Matt Quade and then Tyler Hajjar singled up the middle to score Kyle Rodriguez and Hammann.
In the fifth inning, Bulson singled to left field to bring home Rodriguez and the scored moved to 5-0. Still in the fifth, John Nett padded SCSU's lead with a single to the right side that drove in Bulson and the Hill completed the scoring with a grounder that scored Hajjar.
Blake Flint earned the shutout victory with 6.0 innings of work, which included two strikeouts and six hits allowed. Zach Walz and Avery Stevens added relieft work in the seventh to seal the victory.
In the second game, SCSU rallied in the fourth inning a three-run homer by Bulson to make it 3-2. In the sixth inning, Hammann cranked out an RBI single that drove home Alex Holets and Lenny Walker to make it 5-2.
In the seventh, SCSU's Lenny Walker singled through the left side to score Nett and give the Huskies a 6-4 lead. CSP replied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the contest.
Jacob Bradley suffered the loss for SCSU in relief. Trevor Koenig started the game and pitched 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts, two runs allowed and five hits allowed. George Loxtercamp, Jack Habeck, Stevens and Bradley all combined in relief in the final two innings.
