SCSU baseball scores 10-9 victory over Minnesota Crookston

SCSU will continue its schedule of games at the RussMatt Tournament on Saturday, March 7 with a 9:45 a.m. game against Gannon University. The game will be played at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. On Sunday, March 8, SCSU will battle Minnesota State in a game set for Lake Myrtle Park at 8:00 a.m.
In the game against UMC, the Huskies led 5-1 after the first two innings before the Golden Eagles rallied with six runs in the top of the third. In the first inning, SCSU's Jake Shusterich posted a two RBI homer to jump start the offense. UMC added a solo run in the fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Reid Conlee blasted a solo homer and Kyle Rodriguez' single drove home Aaron Hammann to narrow the gap to 8-7.
In the seventh, SCSU took a 10-7 lead with runs scored by Alex Holet, Luke Bailey and Drew Bulson. UMC added one more run in the top of the ninth but SCSU was able to hang on for the 10-9 win.
In the contest, UMC outhit the Huskies 15-13. At the plate, Conlee was 3-of-4 with a homer, double and one RBI. Shusterich had one home run in the game, which moved his season total to four in 2020. Lenny Walker, Josh Hill and Rodriguez all had two hits in the game.
In the loss to Ashland, the Eagles took command of the game with three runs apiece in the second and third innings. Ashland added two runs in the seventh to ice the decision as the Huskies were outhit 12-4 in the game.
