Former SCSU basketball star named head coach at DMACC

Brett Putz, a standout on the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team from 2008 to 2012, was recently named the new head men's basketball coach at Des Moines Area Community College.
Putz scored 1,315 points during his college basketball career with the Huskies and ranks among the Huskies' all-time leaders with 245 three-point field goals made, 142 career steals and 124 games played at SCSU. A team captain in 2011-12, Putz helped lead the Huskies to three NCAA bids during his career along with a trip to the NCAA DII Final Four in 2010. The Huskies also won NSIC tournament titles in 2009 and 2010 during Putz' college career.
Since his departure from SCSU, Putz has enjoyed a solid career coaching basketball, which includes assistant coaching positions at Chicago State, Highland C.C. (Illinois), Omaha, Wayne State and one season as an assistant with the Huskies in 2012-13. Â
