Huskies tally 34 shots, 16 on goal, in win
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State University women's soccer team is on a roll. After a 0-0 draw against Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, the Huskies got back to their winning ways Sunday afternoon, peppering the University of Sioux Falls en route to a 3-0 victory. St. Cloud State is now 3-3-2 overall with a 3-1-2 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.
TURNING POINT
St. Cloud State put up a barrage of shots in Sunday's win over Sioux Falls, tallying 34 total with 16 on goal in 90 minutes of play. Still, the Cougars were able to hold the Huskies at bay through the first 17 minutes of the game, but their defense was no match for St. Cloud State's speed or offense. That was clearly demonstrated at 17:45 in the first half, as Claire Shea (Excelsior, Minn. / Chanhassen) put the Huskies up 1-0 on a beautiful cross by Karlie Valdez (West Haven, Utah / Fremont).
St. Cloud State added two insurance goals in the second half, as Shea scored her second of the game at 56:36, this time off a free kick by Kira Sosinske (Savage, Minn. / Burnsville). Valdez then scored a goal of her own, sealing the Huskies 3-0 victory at 76:30 in the second half.
TOP HUSKIES
- Redshirt freshman Evie Kohn (West Lakeland, Minn. / Stillwater Area) faced three shots and made three saves in goal for the Huskies. As a team, St. Cloud State held Sioux Falls to six total shots, two in the first half and four in the second.
