St. Cloud State Baseball (3-4, 1-1 NSIC) starter Fabian Villegas cruised through 5.1 innings of work, reliever Jack Habeck earned his first collegiate win with 2.2 nearly-perfect frames and C.J. Breen (1-for-1, 2 RBI) delivered the knockout punch in the Huskies' 4-2 game two win over No. 18 Augustana (5-1, 1-1 NSIC). Scheduled as a seven-inning game one of Sunday's series finale doubleheader, the Huskies and Vikings ended the seventh knotted at two, bringing the game into extras.
Villegas pitched masterfully in his first start of the conference season, scattering four hits over 5.1 frames while striking out two. Both of the runs on Villegas' line were unearned, and the righthander did not walk a single Viking.
The Huskies opened the scoring in the fourth as Paul Steffensen (0-for-3, BB, 2 R, SB) reached base on an error, bringing up Jake Shusterich (3-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) with one out. SCSU's first baseman launched a two-run home run to right field, putting the Huskies up by a pair.
Augustana scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, ending Villegas' day. Habeck entered in relief and cruised through the remaining 2.2 innings of work, allowing just one baserunner on a hit-by-pitch while striking out a pair.
John Nett (2-for-4, R, 2 SB) led off the first frame of free baseball in the eighth with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout, Steffensen drew a walk, then he and Nett moved up 90 feet each on a brilliant double steal. After another strikeout, the Huskies turned to Breen in a pinch-hitting chance against a new lefthander, and the junior delivered with a two-out, two-run single tattooed into left-center field.
Habeck slammed the door in the home half of the eighth with a one-two-three frame.
