SCSU welcomes Bemidji State to Joe Faber Field for midweek set

St. Cloud State Baseball (10-10, 8-7 NSIC) begins a five-game true homestand on Wednesday, April 21 with a two-game midweek series against Bemidji State (4-21, 3-17 NSIC) beginning at 1:30 p.m. CST at Joe Faber Field with game two to follow. The Huskies are opening a critical stretch of games with a trip to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on their minds.

SCSU and BSU have met 177 times since the all-time series began in 1933, with the Huskies owning a 134-42-1 advantage. In a pair of nonconference meetings at the beginning of the 2021 season in Fort Scott, Kansas, the Huskies thumped Bemidji State 21-3 and 15-3 on March 9 and 10.
Scouting the Huskies
St. Cloud State enters the series with an 8-7 record in conference play following a 5-4 loss to Minnesota-Duluth on Monday, seating them seventh in the NSIC standings with six series to go. Following their homestand that concludes with a series against ranked Minnesota-Crookston this weekend, SCSU will begin a daunting Dakotas trip with midweek visits to Minot State and U-Mary bookending a weekend date at Northern State.
The Huskies rank second in the NSIC batting race at .324 with eleven total players carrying at least a .300 average. Matt Quade (1.047 OPS, 2 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 20 RBI) paces the team's qualifiers with a .369 average. John Nett (.361/.484/.583, 5 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 26 R, 17 RBI) and Max Gamm (.338/.424/.432. 4 2B, HR, 16 RBI) terrorize opposing batteries on the basepaths as they have stolen 10 and 12 bases respectively and have been thrown out just a combined three times. Tyler Schiller (.379/.500/.655, 2 2B, 2 HR) has enjoyed an incredible freshman campaign, while Jake Shusterich (.346/.446/.596, 4 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI) joins the frosh, Nett and Quade in the 1.000 OPS club.
SCSU's pitching staff still leads the NSIC in ERA in conference play, holding a 3.26 mark. Luke Tupy (1-1, 5/4 G/GS, 17.0 IP, 2.65 ERA, 21 K, .179 BAA) and Tommy Thompson (2-0, 6/2 G/GS, 16.2 IP, 5.94 ERA, 16:4 K:BB) are the Huskies' probables for the series. In conference play, the bullpen has been anchored by Jack Habeck (18.1 IP, 0.49 ERA, .095 BAA, 16:3 K:BB), Eli Emerson (5.1 IP, 1.69 ERA, 7 K), Nick Brauns (4 APP, 2.70 ERA), Jacob Bradley (2 APP, 0.00 ERA) and Mack Larson (4 APP, 4.26 ERA, 1 SV).

At the plate, Parker Borg (.333/.389/.424, 6 2B, 13 R, 5-6 SB) and Sam Kalberer (.308/.421/.346, 3 2B, 13 R) are the leading hitters, while Tom Keohen paces the team in home runs (3) and RBI (17).
Pitching has been the Beavers' biggest struggle in 2021, carrying a staff ERA of 12.30 with a .381 opponent average and 55 home runs allowed in 25 games played.
