St. Cloud State Baseball's (8-8, 6-5 NSIC) bats could not get going in a 5-1 loss to Winona State (9-9, 7-8 NSIC) in Tuesday's second game of their midweek series. The Huskies mustered just four hits in a game that featured a two-hour weather delay halting the action midway through the sixth.
"We had an awesome start and a pretty good start on the mound by two freshmen," head coach Pat Dolan said, "And other than one bad inning in game two I thought we really competed well."
Freshman starter Luke Tupy struck out six over 4.1 innings of two-hit ball and did not allow an earned run.
"Game one was one of our better offensive games with very few at-bats given away," said Dolan, "But we ended up facing some pretty good pitching in game two and you got to give Winona credit."
Jake Shusterich (1-for-2), Matt Quade (1-for-3), Tate Wallat (1-for-3) and Caleb Marquez (1-for-4) each had a hit in the game. Max Gamm (0-for-3, BB, R) scored the lone Huskies' run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth.
The Huskies continue their homestand this weekend with a three-game series against Sioux Falls. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. CST at Joe Faber Field, with a noon start on Sunday.
The series will be broadcast on the NSIC Network with Live Stats provided by SCSU.
