About the Reddies
Henderson State and St. Cloud State have not played since the 2015 NCAA Central Region Tournament held in St. Cloud. The No. 1-seeded Huskies fell to the No. 8 seed in the first game of the tournament and again in the Regional Championship, leaving a stinging rivalry between the two programs. HSU went 27-19 last season and 18-15 in GAC play, winning the Great American Conference Tournament Championship and earning a ticket to the Central Region Tournament held in Warrensburg. This spring Henderson is off to a 3-0 start including a 5-4 win over No. 24 Delta State at the Dugan Collegiate Baseball Invitational last week. Returner Kaden Argenbright slashed .394/.449/.630 last season with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 43 RBI in 43 games while Greyson Stevens added eight doubles, eight home runs and 42 RBI. Ace Spencer Taack returns after starting 14 games last spring, going 7-2 with a 4.03 ERA and a 71:28 K:BB ratio across 73.2 innings.
About the Griffons
The Huskies last faced Missouri Western State in early 2020, with Riley Ahern tossing 5.0 scoreless innings of three-hit, two-walk baseball while striking out seven Griffons as part of a 6-0 Huskies win. John Nett went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the game. The Griffons struggled last season, going 10-29 with an 8-25 record in MIAA play. MWSU opened the season by being no-hit by No. 11 Southern Arkansas hurler Jeremy Adorno (7.0 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 7) then fell 11-4 to No. 19 Arkansas Tech. Alex Crouch is the big name in the Griff's lineup, coming off a season in which he slashed .353/.419/.673 with 10 doubles, 12 home runs and 32 RBI across 39 games. Jared Slater drew the Opening Day Start for Missouri Western after going 3-0 at Consumes River CC last spring with a 4.62 ERA across five starts.
