Riola sets program record with five stolen bases, bullpen throws three scoreless innings to seal victory
SANFORD, Fla. – Clutch hitting helps St. Cloud State Baseball (7-5) prevail over Bentley with a 7-2 win on Friday to stay undefeated on their trip to Florida. The original ballpark, Sanford Stadium, was unfit to play with leftover standing water, both the Huskies and Falcons packed up and went west to find a dryer playing surface.
After a scoreless first three innings, both teams got on the board in the fourth and Bentley took a 2-1 lead heading to the fifth. Senior Paul Steffensen (1-for-4, R, RBI) quickly erased the lead with an RBI single to make it 2-2. St. Cloud State would pick up two more runs in the sixth before redshirt junior Drew Bulson (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB) busted the game wide open with a bases clearing single to give St. Cloud a 7-2 lead late. Husky relievers took control from there, senior Fabian Villegas (2.0, H, 0 R, 0 BB, K) and true freshman Ethan Lanthier (1.0, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) went a combined three innings without surrendering a run. Huskies win their fifth in a row by a final score of 7-2.
KEY MOMENT
The Falcons and Huskies enter the top of the sixth in a tie ball game 2-2. With two runners on and two outs, true freshman Ethan Navratil (1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB) drove in two runs with a single to center field and put St. Cloud State back on top 4-2.
