WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – In its final contest of a six-game Florida road trip, St. Cloud State (8-6) dropped its first game of the trip to Sioux Falls 8-6, on Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. Errors and defensive miscues came back to haunt the Huskies as six out of the eight runs for the Cougars were unearned. St. Cloud put together a five-run inning in the fourth to pull within one, but USF responded with one of their own to extend the lead 8-6.
The Huskies had the tying run on the bases in the final inning but could not scratch any run across. USF's relief pitchers held St. Cloud State scoreless in the final five innings to hand the Huskies their first loss of the week.
KEY MOMENT

TOP HUSKIES
Senior outfielder Paul Steffensen
"I was really just trying to stick to my approach at the plate. Get something over the plate and put a good swing on it. Tonight, was a bump in the road, but we look to learn to get better from it. I think heading into conference play we are all ready to play our best baseball. Should be a fun conference opener this weekend."
UP NEXT
With the third and final non-conference road trip ending, the new season begins in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. St. Cloud State stays on the road to start conference play, first up the second-ranked team in the preseason coaches' poll, Augustana.
