Huskies leave the bases loaded twice in series finale against VIkings
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana (12-4-1, 2-1 NSIC) executed in key situations on both sides of the ball to take game three and the series over St. Cloud State (9-8, 1-2 NSIC) with a 6-3 win in the rubber match Sunday. Both teams picked up a run in the first inning and from there, starters senior Trecor Koenig (3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, BB, 4 K's) and Caleb Sarri for the Vikings really settled in. Koenig had his start cut short because of an injury. The Vikings scored the next two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. St. Cloud was held off the board until the seventh to cut the lead down to one, but that's as close as it got. The Vikings added insurance in the seventh in eighth to extend their lead and close out a series win with a 6-3 victory.
KEY MOMENT
The Huskies had the bases loaded twice within the game and did not score a run in either of those opportunities, going0-for-3 with the bases loaded in the game.
TOP HUSKIES
Head Coach Pat Dolan
"It was nice to get a split on Saturday against a team like Augustana, because you know you're not going to come in here and win three games easily. If we continue to get better each day we should be just fine and I think we'll be happy where we are towards the end of the year."
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will now prepare for a midweek double header against Winona State (2-9, 0-0 NSIC) on Wednesday, March 23. The first conference series of the year for the Warriors was canceled, but scheduled to be made up Monday, March 21. The Huskies and Warriors will play a doubleheader at Loughrey field with game times of 1:30 p.m. CT and 3:30 p.m. CT. Coverage will be on the NSIC Network and KVSC Sports Stream.
