Volleyball announces additions to 2022 recruit class

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University volleyball team announced the addition of two players to its 2022 recruit class. Cannon Falls middle blocker Halle Hustad and Oconomowoc's Ella Unterweger, an outside hitter, are both set to join the Huskies roster in the fall of 2022, head coach Chad Braegelmann announced Friday morning.

"We are very excited to add Halle and Ella to this recruiting class," said head coach Chad Braegelmann. "The graduation of more of our student-athletes opened up spots to bring in two additional talented players. Halle and Ella will definitely add to the competitiveness in our gym as both players helped their teams to the respective state tournaments last fall."

Meet the St. Cloud State volleyball recruit class of 2022:

Halle Hustad (Cannon Falls, Minn. / Cannon Falls)
A 6'1 middle from Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Hustad brings a wealth of high level experience to St. Cloud State. As a senior, Hustad led the Bombers to their first MSHSL State Tournament appearance and additionally earned All-Conference honors for her performance. She closed her high school career ranked No. 2 all-time in career kills, tallying over 500 in her Cannon Falls career. Hustad additionally played club volleyball with Northern Lights and Southern Minnesota Volleyball.

Braegelmann's comments: Halle brings a physicality and net presents to the team. At 6 foot plus, she can play above the net and has the ability to score points at a high level. She blocks well and can change attacker's shots with her presence at the net.

Ella Unterweger (Oconomowoc, Wis. / Oconomowoc)
Unterweger joins the Huskies after a fantastic prep career at Oconomowoc high school. An outside hitter, Unterweger brings versatility to the Huskies roster, as she is able to both hit from the pins and serve as a defensive specialist. A three-time conference champion, Unterweger earned All-Conference honors in 2021 after leading the Raccoons to the state title. Off the court, Unterweger is a scholar athlete and has earned multiple academic honors throughout her prep career.

Braegelmann's comments:  Ella has a ton of experience playing for a very successful high school program. Ella has a very high Volleyball IQ and a fast arm. Her consistency in the back row, both on defense and serve receive will be very valuable assets to our team.Â
