St. Cloud State Heads Back to Sioux Falls for Weekend Series vs Cougars

ST. CLOUD, MN – St. Cloud State Baseball (13-9, 5-3 NSIC) will head back to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a weekend series against the University of Sioux Falls (14-11, 6-4 NSIC). Due to weather conditions not being optimal in the St. Cloud area, the original first home series of the year at Joe Faber Field is being moved to First National Bank Field in Brandon, SD. Sunday will feature a double header with game times of Noon CT and 2:00 p.m. CT with the series finale on Monday with first pitch at Noon CT.
The Huskies and Cougars have faced 23 times with SCSU holding the advantage with a 17-6 record. Over the last five games, the Huskies have won three of the matchups, but the Cougars have won the most recent in a non-conference game that was played in Florida in early March.
Scouting the Huskies
After a weekend sweep of Wayne State just a week ago, St. Cloud now sits third in the NSIC as they start their April stretch. Starting pitching continues to be superb for the Huskies, in the five games played last week, three Huskies recorded complete games. Redshirt senior Ryan Duffy (CG, 3 H, R, BB, 13 K) came back strong after illness and punched out a career high 13 hitters. Redshirt junior Riley Ahern (CG, 5 H, R, BB, 7 K's) followed up with his best performance of the season in a blowout win over the Wildcats. Then in his first start of the year redshirt sophomore Jack Habeck (CG, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's) threw a one hit, complete game shutout to cap off a stellar weekend.
On the other side of the ball, some notable Huskies last weekend were sophomore Tyler Schiller (.298/.450/.553, 14 R, 7 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI) went 5-for-10 over the week with two home runs while extending his hitting streak to five games. Redshirt sophomore John Nett (.309/.369/.479, 17 R, 7 2B, 3 3B, 10 RBI) is riding a four-game hitting streak and picked up his second four hit game of the season.
Scouting the Cougars
The University of Sioux Falls has compiled a conference record of 6-4 in their first four series of the year. The Cougars currently sit in fifth place in the NSIC after a split in their midweek double header against Norther State on Thursday. As a team, the Cougars have been doing it with their bats, USF is fourth in the NSIC in team batting average (.296), while sitting in eighth in team era (5.89).
Some notable players to look out for are redshirt freshman Noah Christenson (.422/.451/.973, 26 R, 6 2B, 23 RBI, 8 BB) leading the team in almost every offensive category and received his first NSIC Baseball Player of the Week this season. Redshirt sophomore Tyler Cate (.359/.429/.486, 24 R, 4 2B, 8 RBI, 10 BB, 8 SB) and Brady Klehr (.329/.365/.851, 17 R, 5 2B, 2 HR, 14 RBI) are both following right behind and are productive bats in the middle of the lineup.
The weekend rotation for the Cougars has consisted of Caleb Ditmarson (3-1, 5 GS, 2.97 ERA, 30.1 IP, 24 H, 10 ER, .224 B/AVG, 11 BB, 35 K's) who's been their ace in his five starts with two complete games. Matt Graham (1-3, 5 GS, 8.06 ERA, 25.2 IP, 39 H, 23 ER, .345 B/AVG, 7 BB, 16 K's) has struggled recently and to round out the rotation is Andrew Maslowski (3-2, 5 GS, 6.35 ERA, 22.2 IP, 34 H, 16 ER, .351 B/AVG, 8 BB, 21 K's) who picked up a win last time out in blowout win over Southwest Minnesota state.
