
St. Cloud State Baseball Set for NSIC Tournament

Huskies open with Sioux Falls on Wednesday at Ronken Field
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (36-11, 15-4 NSIC) will open the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday against Sioux Falls (25-25, 17-18 NSIC) in Sioux Falls, S.D. The 2-seeded Huskies will play the 7-seed Cougars at Ronken Field at 6:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The eight-team double elimination tournament is set to be held May 11-14 at Ronken Field and First Bank National Field in Brandon Valley. The championship game will take place on Saturday at Ronken Field at 12:00 p.m. CT.
THE SERIES
St. Cloud State and Sioux Falls have split four games this season, as the Cougars won 8-6 in a nonconference on March 13 in Sanford, Fla., before the Huskies won two out of three April 3-4 in Brandon Valley, S.D. Redshirt junior Riley Ahern (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) went the distance in the Huskies seven-inning, 8-2 win on April 3, striking out eight Cougars to earn his fourth win of the season. Redshirt junior Sam Riola (Ham Lake, Minn.) and redshirt sophomore John Nett (Appleton, Wis.) combined for seven RBI in the Huskies' victories over Sioux Falls this season.
St. Cloud State leads the all-time series between the two schools, 15-7.
ALL-NSIC HUSKIES
The Huskies were well in the All-NSIC awards, which were announced on Tuesday. Riola and redshirt freshman Luke Tupy (New Prague, Minn.) were the headliners for the Huskies, as Riola was named the Player and Newcomer of the Year, while Tupy was named the Freshman of the Year.
The Huskies had four named to the All-NSIC First team, as Riola (2B) and Tupy (LHP) were joined by redshirt Nett and freshman Ethan Lanthier (Northfield, Minn.) at outfield and relief pitcher, respectively. Redshirt sophomore Tate Wallat (Federal Way, Wash.) was named to the All-NSIC Second Team at third base and the All-Defensive Team, while freshman Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) was named to the All-Defensive Team.
St. Cloud State's four first team selections are its most since 2015 when it had five, and its six all-conference honorees are its most since 2019 when it had two first team and four second team selections.
NSIC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The Huskies are seeking their fourth NSIC Tournament title after winning championships in 2011, 2015 and 2016.
