Foley becomes fourth player in program history to earn national weekly accolades
St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State junior outside hitter Kenzie Foley has been named AVCA DII National Player of the Week following her terrific conference-opening weekend.
Foley hit .644 as the Huskies swept both Mary and Minot State, averaging 5.92 points and 5.50 kills a set. She sent down 33 kills on the weekend including 23 in the Huskies' three-setter over Mary on Friday. Her 23 kills were the most in a three-set match by a Husky since Leah Herrboldt had the same amount on September 13, 2002 against Minnesota-Morris. The Sergeant Bluff, Iowa native closed out her weekend with a double-double against Minot State and earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
"We often talk about the importance of playing as a team," said head coach Chad Braegelmann, "When the team performs well, individual success will follow – Kenzie is a good example of a player that does what she can to help the team become better. We're extremely proud of her honor and excited to see both her and the team's continued success!"
The reigning AVCA DII National Freshman of the Year ranks fourth across DII in points/set and is fifth nationally in kills/set. Through the first three weeks of the season, Foley leads the Northern Sun in kills/set and points/set while ranking fourth in hitting percentage.
Foley is the fourth St. Cloud State student-athlete to garner AVCA National Player of the Week honors and the first since 1996, following Kristi Kutter (Oct. 4, 1993), Swen Minnema (Oct. 9, 1995) and Cami Selbitschka (Sep. 2, 1996).
St. Cloud State continues NSIC play at home this weekend with matches against Northern State and MSU-Moorhead at Halenbeck Hall on Friday and Saturday.
