Six multi-hit efforts spoiled in wild finale at Missouri Southern State
The Huskies struck first in the third inning as Navratil blooped a single into right, advancing to second on a lackadaisical effort to get the ball back in. Two batters later, Nett crushed a ground-rule double out to center, plating the sophomore for the game's first run. Navratil added two more on a single in the fourth, scoring Bulson and Grimm after the pair opened the frame with back-to-back singles.
Sam Riola threw well in his first start of the season, tossing 5.1 innings of three-run ball while scattering six hits and two walks. The righthander struck out five and held the Lions scoreless through four frames before wearing down in the sixth. Missouri Southern plated two in the inning to tie the game at three, prompting the Huskies to hand the ball off to Jack Habeck with one more on second. SCSU's southpaw struck out the first man he faced then induced a groundout to escape the inning.
MSSU's lineup stayed hot in the seventh, scoring three runs to go up 6-3. In need of clutch hitting, the Huskies produced a crooked number in the eighth with a six-spot. Sawyer Smith (1-for-4, HBP, R, 2B) and Bulson opened the frame with back-to-back doubles, then Grimm singled home Bulson to make it a one run game. Beier laced a double to right to advance Grimm to third followed by a game-tying sacrifice fly off the bat of Navratil. Two batters later, Nett smoked a go-ahead RBI double into left-center. Tate Wallat (0-for-3, 2 BB, R) followed with a walk before Riola lined a two-run triple deep into the right-center alley.
Leading 9-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth, St. Cloud State saw the Lions plate five runs including a walk-off three-run homer.
