
St. Cloud State Baseball and Sioux Falls Split Doubleheader

Tupy tosses 6+ innings in fifth consecutive start to improve to 4-1
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Cloud State Baseball (12-11, 8-5 NSIC) split a doubleheader to open a four-game series against Sioux Falls (14-9, 8-6 NSIC) on Friday in Sioux Falls. SCSU served as the home team in the series with the site reversal due to weather, with the Huskies taking game one 9-1 before Sioux Falls took game two 11-7.
Redshirt junior Luke Tupy (New Prague, Minn.) was solid once again on the mound in the series-opener, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing only one run on five hits while three Huskies had two or more RBI to lead SCSU to the win. In the night cap, SCSU lost a 7-1 lead by giving up five runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to allow the comeback victory for the Cougars.
GAME 1 – SCSU 9, USF 1
Senior Ben Clapp (Maple Lake, Minn.) got the scoring started for the Huskies in the opener with a solo home run in the second inning. It was the start of a four-run inning for the Huskies with senior Mitchell Gumbko (Ada, Mich.) adding a two-run single and senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) and RBI single later in the inning.
The Huskies would tack on three more in the fifth and two in the sixth to make the score 9-0 before USF broke through with a run in the seventh.
Tupy was sharp on the mound again for the fifth consecutive start as he allowed one run in the game, the fourth time in seven starts this season he has allowed one or fewer runs. He logged the win to improve to 4-1 on the season with a 2.68 ERA and .187 opposing batting average.

In the second game, the Huskies scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to open a 7-1 lead, but five runs form the Cougars in the seventh and eighth innings led to a win from USF and a split in the doubleheader.
