ELITE LINEUP
St. Cloud State will send an NSIC-leading seven batters to the plate this weekend who boast a .300 average or better, led by redshirt junior Garrett Bevacqua (Carlsbad, Calif.), junior Sawyer Smith (Somers, Wis.) and senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) who are all hitting better than .350. The trio rank at 21st, 26th and 29th in the NSIC at .367, .357 and .354, respectively. Smith ranks among the league's top-10 in numerous hitting categories, including fifth in doubles (eight), seventh in triples (two), ninth in runs scored (23) and 10th in hits (30). Additionally, graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) ranks seventh in home runs with six while hitting .308 with 22 RBI. James was named NSIC Player of the Week after SCSU's 3-1 trip to Colorado, as he hit .500 (9-for-18) over the four-game stand with four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs.
ACE ON THE MOUND
Redshirt junior Luke Tupy (New Prague, Minn.) has solidified his position as the ace of the Husky rotation having twice been named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week. In six starts this season, Tupy is 3-1 on the season with a 2.91 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .179 opposing batting average and 45 strikeouts. Tupy leads the NSIC in opposing batting average (.179) and strikeouts (45) while ranking second in innings pitched (34.0), third in wins (three) and fourth in ERA (2.91).
Tupy flirted with a no-hitter once again against the Vikings on March 14, as he didn't allow a hit over the first 3.2 innings. The Husky junior struck out 10 batters while allowing five hits and five walks. Tupy routinely worked around jams with Augustana stranding 10 runners in the game.
