St. Cloud State Baseball Splits with Minnesota Crookston

Huskies keep leg up on third spot in NSIC with doubleheader split
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (25-16, 21-10 NSIC) earned a split with Minnesota Crookston (26-14, 20-10 NSIC) in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Huskies won the first game, 4-3, before dropping the second game, 13-10.
GAME 1 – SCSU 4, UMC 3
The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first three innings and then held on for the rest of the game. Graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) recorded the first two RBI in the game, driving home senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) both times. In the first inning, James singled home Beier before recording a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Up next after James was junior Sawyer Smith (Somers, Wis.), who continued his hot stretch at the plate with his 10th home run of the season.
Junior Kaden Pfeffer (Racine, Wis.) was solid once again on the mound after getting the start, as went the distance to record his second consecutive complete game while improving to 4-0 on the season. Pfeffer struck out seven through the first three innings and eight overall, a new season-high. He allowed a two-run home run in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the seventh but shut the door on the Golden Eagles to finish the game after 121 pitches.
TOP HUSKIES
In the second game, the Huskies scored the first seven runs of the game, but Minnesota Crookston then scored in every inning from the fourth inning on to take the win, 13-10. Redshirt senior Noah Dehne (St. Paul, Minn.) and senior Mitchell Gumbko (Ada, Mich.) had three and two extra base hits, respectively, at the dish, but it wasn't enough to get the win in the end.

St. Cloud State will next head to Minot State for a three-game series April 27-28 in Minot, N.D.

- Pfeffer recorded his second consecutive complete game and recorded the win in his fourth consecutive appearance. He improved to 4-0 on the season while lowering his season ERA to 4.33 and recording a season-high with 22 strike outs.
- Beier extended his hit streak to a team-best 17 games.

- Dehne had three extra base hits to lead the Husky offense, recording his third home run as well as his 15th and 16th doubles. His 16 doubles now lead the Huskies and ranks second in the NSIC.
- Gumbko had his first career game with two doubles and matched a career-high with three hits.
- Navratil launched his sixth home run of the season and 20th of his career.
- Beier extended his hit streak to a team-best 18 games.
- Redshirt sophomore Cael Kolacia (Fort Dodge, Iowa) got the start on the mound and went five innings with a season-best eight strike outs.
St. Cloud State will next head to Minot State for a three-game series April 27-28 in Minot, N.D.
