
Huskies Sweep Winona State, Pfeffer Logs Third Consecutive Complete Game Victory

Pfeffer finishes third straight complete game, Huskies improve to 17-6 on the road
WINONA, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (29-17, 25-11 NSIC) scored eight runs in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Winona State (19-27, 16-20 NSIC) on Tuesday afternoon in Winona. Junior Kaden Pfeffer (Racine, Wis.) recorded his third consecutive complete game to lift the Huskies to an 8-1 victory in the first game before the Huskies rallied with seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings of the second game to win 8-4.
The Huskies have won or split its last nine series it has played dating back to March 29-30 against Sioux Falls.
GAME 1 – SCSU 8, WSU 1
Pfeffer was lights out for the third consecutive start as the only run he allowed was in the first inning on two-out double after the Warrior leadoff hitter got on following an error. He only allowed two hits all game and struck out five while going to distance for his third consecutive complete game.
After the Husky offense was kept off the scoreboard in the first three innings, senior Mitchell Gumbko (Ada, Mich.) gave the Huskies its first lead of the game in the fourth inning with a two-RBI single, followed immediately by an RBI single from senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.). It was a lead the Huskies would not relinquish for the rest of the game.
SCSU would add three more runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh as insurance runs to finish the scoring at 8-1.

Redshirt sophomore Cael Kolacia (Fort Dodge, Iowa) got the start in the second game, who took the mound and went a season-high seven innings while allowing two runs on eight hits with a season-high nine strikeouts.
Beier gave the Huskies an early lead with a third-inning solo home run, but then Winona State took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, forcing SCSU to rally in the seventh inning. The Husky offense responded with runs in the seventh inning to take the lead, taking advantage of three walks and a balk in the inning. Beier had a two-RBI single in the rally while James' RBI single made the lead 6-2.
In the eighth inning, redshirt freshman Archer Ogbourne (Carlisle, Iowa) padded the lead with a two-run home run to make the score 8-2.

St. Cloud State will close the regular season this weekend against Bemidji State at Joe Faber Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, May 3 beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT followed by a single game on Saturday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
Saturday's game will serve as Senior Day and will feature a pre-game celebration for the life of former SCSU player and coach Pete Pratt.

It also marks the most by a Husky pitcher since Dominic Austing had three in 2018 and the first time since 2015 the Huskies have had a pair of Huskies with three or more complete games each.
- SCSU's seven complete games as a team are the most since recording nine in 2022.
- Beier had his fourth three-hit game and 11th multi-RBI game while snagging his third steal of the season.
- Smith had his 16th multi-RBI game of the season to move his team-high total to 54.
- Gumbko recorded his fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
- James had his fifth three-hit game of the season and sixth with three or more hits.
