
Huskies Sweep Doubleheader over Bemidji State to Clinch Series

Huskies win first game 6-3 before run-ruling Beavers in second game on walk off from Habeck
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (31-17, 27-11 NSIC) earned a pair of victories in a doubleheader sweep over Bemidji State (3-46, 2-37 NSIC) on Friday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and held on to win 6-3 before run-ruling the Beavers in game two with a 12-2 win in seven innings.
With the wins, the Huskies clinched their third consecutive 30-win season, its 14th 30-win season in program history, all coming under head coach Pat Dolan. The Huskies have now won or split the last 10 series it has played dating back to March 29-30 against Sioux Falls.
GAME 1 – SCSU 6, BSU 3
SCSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning following a 2-RBI double from junior Sawyer Smith (Somers, Wis.) and a delayed steal scoring Smith. Redshirt senior Noah Dehne (St. Paul, Minn.) launched a two-run home run in the third and then senior Mitchell Gumbko executed a double steal in the fourth to score the Huskies' sixth run.
Leadoff hitter senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) made his second start of the season and went four innings without allowing a run to earn the victory. Redshirt freshman Nolan Kahle (Waukesha, Wis.) then came on in relief and pitched three innings to earn his first career save.

In the second game, SCSU scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second to grab a 7-0 lead after two innings. Redshirt junior Garrett Bevacqua (Carlsbad, Calif.) had a two-RBI single in the first inning to give the Huskies a 3-0 advantage. Gumbko added an RBI double in the second before a sacrifice fly from graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) and a two-run home run from Smith.
Beier's double in the fifth followed by a groundout from James to make the score 11-2. Then, in the seventh inning, senior Jack Habeck (Appleton, Wis.) was given the chance to come to the plate for the first time in his career. After working the count to 3-2, Habeck sent a line drive back up the middle to bring in senior Tyler Schiller (Hutchinson, Minn.) from second base to give SCSU a 10-run lead and walk off the Beavers.
On the mound, senior Grady Fuchs (Paynesville, Minn.) made his first career start and went five innings to earn the victory. His line included two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Junior Sam Lachot (Scottsdale, Ariz.) pitched the final two innings without surrendering a run.

St. Cloud State and Bemidji State will close its series and the regular season on Saturday when the two teams play at 3:00 p.m. CT at Joe Faber Field. The game will serve as Senior Day and will feature a pre-game celebration for the life of former SCSU player and coach Pete Pratt.
