SCSU runs season-long sin streak to five games
GAME 1 – SCSU 12, NSU 3
SCSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a run in the first inning and three runs in the fourth. For the second game in-a-row, graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) got the Huskies on the scoreboard first when he doubled in senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) for the 1-0 lead. Later in the fourth the Huskies added on with RBI hits from junior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.), redshirt junior Kevin Butler (Naperville, Ill.) and Beier.
Northern State crawled back into the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but then the Huskies responded immediately with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to open the game. Redshirt sophomore Brayden Jacobson (West Fargo, N.D.) and Beier each had RBI singles in the inning. The Huskies would then add on three runs in the top of the seventh to finish off the scoring.
Senior Payton VanBeck (Elrosa, Minn.) got the ball to start the game for the Huskies and earned the win after pitching four innings while allowing three runs on five hits with three strike outs. VanBeck then turned the mound over to senior Cooper Avery (Fort Myers, Fla.), freshman Will Hess (Hartland, Wis.) and redshirt freshman Ryan Roehl (West Bend, Wis.), who all pitched scoreless innings to shut down the Wolves.
