SCSU drops final regular season game to Buckeyes, 3-2
COLUMBUS, Ohio. – No. 11/10 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (15-13-6, 10-13-5 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell to No. 2 Ohio State, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus in its regular season finale. It was the second consecutive game that the Huskies came back to tie the game in the third period, just to concede a game-winning goal shortly after.
The Buckeyes (25-6-3, 19-6-3 WCHA) scored the game's first two goals in quick succession in the second half of the first period, with the second being a short-handed tally.
Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) put the Huskies on the board, scoring the game's only second period goal with just under five minutes left in the period. Her goal came with just one second left on a Husky power play opportunity and cut OSU's lead to one.
Senior forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) tipped in a deep shot from freshman defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) to tie the game at two with just under five minutes remaining in the game, but the Buckeyes responded two minutes later with what ended up being the game-winning goal to make the game, 3-2.
