Huskies had 2-1 lead in bottom of the ninth before a walk-off two-run home run
JOPLIN, Mo. – St. Cloud State Baseball (0-1, 0-0 NSIC) led for most of the game but lost 3-2 to No. 11-ranked Missouri Southern (4-0, 0-0 NSIC), as the Lions walked-off the Huskies with a two-run home run in the ninth inning. Redshirt junior Cael Kolacia (Fort Dodge, Iowa) was solid over six innings on the mound, allowing just one run on five hits with three strikeouts while senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) had the first home run of the season for the Huskies in the fifth inning.
Both teams played through four innings without plating a run, as Guthrie's bomb in the fifth inning opened up the scoring at 1-0. The Lions evened up the score at 1-1 in the sixth after beginning the inning with three straight hits, but the Kolacia worked his way out of the inning, getting a ground ball double play to end the frame.
SCSU then retook the lead in the eighth inning when redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) scored on a sacrifice bunt from redshirt junior Brayden Jacobson (West Fargo, N.D.), making the score 2-1.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Huskies got the first two outs, but then a single and home run from the Lions ended the game at 3-2.
