
St. Cloud State Baseball Drops Doubleheader to No. 10/6 Minnesota State

Huskies force extra innings in first game before falling 10-8 and 10-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (11-15, 7-9 NSIC) lost both games of a doubleheader against No. 10/6 Minnesota State (21-2, 15-1 NSIC) to close a four-game series on Friday at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud. The Huskies rallied for eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force extra innings in the first game before falling 10-8, while game two went 10-1 in favor of the Mavericks.
GAME 1 – MSU 10, SCSU 8 (8 inn.)
Trailing 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning of a seven-inning game, the Huskies began its rally with a one-out single from junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) to plate redshirt junior Brayden Jacobson (West Fargo, N.D.). Sophomore Wilmis Castro (San Juan, Puerto Rico) would later walk with the bases loaded to make the score 5-2. Then, redshirt freshman Reid Tigges (Spencer, Iowa) pinch-hit and reached on an error that scored Tweet and senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) to pull the Huskies within one run at 5-4.
Minnesota State responded with three runs in the seventh to extend the lead back to 8-4, leading to another rally from the Huskies. For the second consecutive inning, Tweet got the scoring started with an RBI single before senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) reach on a fielder's choice to score a run and Guthrie provided a sacrifice fly to each drive in a run. Castro then doubled home pinch-runner redshirt junior Wilson Zuck (Appleton, Wis.) and tie the score at 8-8.
Unfortunately, the Mavericks would score two runs in the top of the eighth inning and SCSU couldn't pull even again in the bottom half of the inning.

Minnesota State broke through first in the third inning of the season game with solo home run and then added three runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take control of the game. SCSU scored its lone run of the game in the seventh inning after an error.

SCSU will continue its 10-game homestand with a four-game series next weekend against Northern State. The two teams will play April 4-6 at Joe Faber Field.
