SCSU closes 2025 season after 16-11 setback to Sioux Falls in elimination game

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Cloud State Baseball (28-26, 22-18 NSIC) lost a back-and-forth battle to Sioux Falls (32-27, 25-15), falling 16-11 to be eliminated from the NSIC Tournament and end its 2025 season on Friday at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Huskies held leads of 6-1 and 10-7 but gave up nine runs in the sixth and seventh inning and couldn't muster a third comeback.

SCSU took its first lead of the game with a six-run second inning, scoring all six of its runs with two outs. Junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) launched a grand slam and sophomore Wilmis Castro (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) hit an RBI double in the inning.

Sioux Falls then took the lead at 7-6 with three runs in the third inning, but SCSU retook the lead in the fifth inning with a four-run inning, aided by a pinch-hit three-run home run from junior Ethan Krueger (Wauwatosa, Wis.). USF then retook the lead for good in the sixth inning with a six-run inning.

NOTES

SCSU is now 35-24 in NSIC Tournament games dating back to 2010 and 1-2 against Sioux Falls in the conference tournament.
The Huskies hit two home runs in the game to end the season with 67 home runs, the second-most home runs hit in a single season in program history, trailing only the 96 home runs the 2016 team hit.
SCSU closed the season with numerous top-10 marks in offensive categories, including first in hit by pitches (98), sixth in total bases (866), seventh in extra base hits (184), eighth in doubles (109), ninth in runs (394) and 10^th in hits (540).
Tweet launched his fifth home run and had four RBI to total 44 on the season.
Krueger hit his third home run of the season.
Navratil had three hits for his team-leading 24^th multi-hit game of the season and ended the season with a .373 average.
Castro hit two doubles and ended the season with a team-leading 16 doubles.
